Marzio Ciani received a law degree cum laude in 2000 from the Università degli Studi di Roma “La Sapienza” and thereafter completed a master’s degree (LL.M.) at the Law School of Georgetown University in Washington D.C.. He began his legal career in 2002 with the structured finance department of BonelliErede in Milan.  He then became an associate with Shearman & Sterling LLP (now A&O Shearman) in the Rome and New York (2006/2007). Since 2012, he was a senior counsel in the Corporate Finance Department of Legance. Marzio’s practice ranges from M&A to capital markets with a focus on extraordinary transactions in a variety of industries, including fashion and technology, the automotive, banking and financial sectors. Marzio has been involved in some of the most relevant IPOs, rights offerings and accelerated bookbuildings in the Italian financial markets assisting prominent financial institutions and companies. He has broad experience also in relation to debt capital markets transactions, including high yields bonds, convertible and exchangeable notes and medium-term notes and U.S. shelf take-downs.  On the regulatory side, Marzio assists Italian and foreign companies in connection with public offer requirements and applicable exemptions pursuant to Italian and US securities laws, as well as in the context of employee share offering plans. Through the years, Marzio gained significant experience of corporate governance issues and of board of directors’ dynamics assisting corporate bodies (board of directors, internal committees, board of statutory auditors and independent directors) of listed and non-listed companies in their ordinary and extraordinary activities. Marzio joined Orsingher Ortu as a Partner in the Rome office in 2025.  Marzio is admitted as an Italian lawyer since 2004, he is also admitted to the New York Bar since 2007 and to the Supreme Court of the United States since 2012. Marzio is fluent in English.
