TRADE SECRETS | WIPO Guide to Trade Secrets and Innovation released

In July 2024, the WIPO launched its comprehensive and accessible online Guide to Trade Secrets and Innovation (“Guide”). The Guide is divided into seven parts plus an annex including selected reference materials. Part I introduces the Guide; Part II discusses the high-level goals of a trade secret system and its role in the innovation ecosystem; Part III informs the readers about the legal frameworks for trade secret protection; Part IV delves into how to manage trade secrets to maximise their potential; Part V discusses trade secrets in litigation; Part VI focuses on the use and management of trade secrets in collaborative innovation; Part VII discusses the management of digital trade secrets in the form of digital data, algorithms or programming code and trade secrets in any field that are stored in a digital format. As stated in its introduction, the Guide is not intended to be an instruction manual or a prescriptive guide, rather it aims to address the common and different needs of a wide spectrum of readers.
