INDUSTRIES, TECHNOLOGY | ACN’s New Guidelines on Cryptographic Functions

On 22 July 2024, the Italian National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) updated its guidelines on cryptographic functions, focusing on data confidentiality and on how to deal with quantum threats.

Cryptography, which consists of the encryption of messages through the use of cryptographic keys to obtain an encrypted message, enables the protection of digital communications in a secure and efficient manner.

Key topics of the guidelines include password protection, cryptographic hash functions to verify data integrity, and authentication codes to ensure message security and verify the sender’s identity. With its guidelines, the ACN aims to raise awareness among digital service providers and manufacturers for the adoption of modern and secure cryptographic solutions capable of preventing identity and money theft or, in general, the compromise of data security.
