INDUSTRIES, ISP | AGCOM and Google test technical solution to block illegal services

On 23 May 2025, the Italian Media Regulator (AGCOM) and Google, in its capacity as a provider of publicly available DNS services and a search engine operator, successfully tested a technical solution to block copyright-infringing content and fulfill the obligations set forth by Law No. 93 of 14 July 2023 (the “Anti-piracy Law”) and Article 9 of the Digital Services Act. The test allowed for the prompt reporting by right holders to Google of illegal domain names and IP addresses through the Piracy Shield platform. AGCOM has publicly invited other service providers involved in any way in granting access to copyright-infringing content to promptly undertake similar initiatives. As of today, the number of blocks implemented through Piracy Shield amounts to approximately 55,504, of which 44,602 domain names (FQDNs) and 10,902 IP addresses.
