ESG | Assonime circular on the new regulation on corporate reporting and disclosure obligations on sustainability issued

On 7 November 2024, Assonime issued Circular No. 21 on the new regulation on corporate reporting and disclosure obligations on sustainability, that illustrates and comments on the provisions of Legislative Decree No. 125 of 6 September 2024, transposing European Directive No. 2022/2464 (so-called CSRD), which reforms the regulation on corporate reporting on sustainability. The general principles of the ESRS standards on the criteria that companies must follow in the preparation of sustainability reporting, adopted by the European Commission following the opinion of EFRAG, are also examined. The complexity of the regulatory framework and the new information obligations, as well as the significant extension of the entities required to provide sustainability reporting, pose a series of critical operational difficulties and represent a difficult challenge for all companies, in particular for smaller ones and for those that will have to provide sustainability information for the first time. The circular provides a systematic reconstruction of the regulation and some interpretative solutions on the main application issues.
