CONSUMER LAW | European ODR platform to be discontinued

Following the adoption of Regulation (EU) No. 2024/3228 of 19 December 2024 (the “Regulation”), the European Online Dispute Resolution Platform (the “ODR Platform”) will be discontinued as of 20 July 2025. According to the recitals of the Regulation, this decision was based on the ODR Platform’s limited effectiveness, as only a small fraction of visitors use the ODR platform to submit complaints, and only 2% of the complaints receive a positive response from traders, allowing them to be forwarded to an Alternative Dispute Resolution entity listed on the ODR platform. The last date to submit new complaints on the ODR Platform is 20 March 2025. Users will be able to use the ODR platform until 19 July 2025 to manage complaints submitted before the deadline. In accordance with Article 2(4) of the Regulation, all information relating to cases on the ODR platform, including personal data, will be permanently deleted by 20 July 2025.
