AI | AI Act: EU Commission releases guidelines on prohibited AI practices

On 4 February 2025, the EU Commission released the final version of the Guidelines on prohibited artificial intelligence practices established by AI Act (Guidelines). The approval and subsequent release of the Guidelines follows the entry into force, on 2 February 2025, of some key provisions of the AI Act, including Article 5. Article 5 of the AI Act aims to prohibit the placing on the market, putting into service, or use of specific AI systems that pose unacceptable risks to fundamental rights and EU values. The Guidelines serve as practical guidance to assist competent authorities under the AI Act in their enforcement activities, as well as providers and deployers of AI systems in ensuring compliance with their obligations under the AI Act. Although the final version of the Guidelines has been released, the EU Commission has clarified that they will not enter into force until translations  into all EU languages are available.
