AI | AI Act entry-into-force postponement ruled out by the EC

On 4 July 2025, European Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier confirmed that the AI Act will enter into force according to the originally planned schedule, with no grace periods or extended implementation timelines. Rules concerning general-purpose AI will apply from August 2025, while those covering high-risk AI systems will become applicable in August 2026.  The European Commission’s announcement dismisses recent calls from several companies and Member States to postpone the applicability of the AI Act. While the legal deadlines will be respected, the European Commission stated it will support stakeholders throughout the compliance process.
