LEGAL NEWS IN THE SPOTLIGHT | Milan to host UPC’s Central Division

On 26 January 2024, the Headquarters Agreement (“Agreement”) between the Italian Republic and the Unified Patent Court (“UPC”) was signed (see the Italian Government’s press release here). The Agreement follows last June’s decision of the UPC’s Administrative Committee establishing a section of the UPC’s Central Division in Milan to replace the former section in London. The Agreement thus officially moves the third section of the UPC’s Central Division in Milan, after Paris and Munich, with jurisdiction over cases involving “Human necessities” with the exclusion of supplementary protection certificate cases.
