DATA PROTECTION | The EDPB launches its 2024 – 2027 data strategy

In a recent press release, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) announced the adoption of its data strategy for the years 2024 to 2027 (“Strategy”). The Strategy is structured around four key pillars, outlining the Board’s main objectives and highlighting the key actions to achieve them. The first pillar focuses on enhancing the harmonisation of data protection laws within the European Union while promoting compliance. The second pillar aims to strengthen the development of a common enforcement culture and to foster effective cooperation among relevant stakeholders. Under the third pillar, the EDPB aims to safeguard data protection in the developing digital and cross-regulatory landscape. Lastly, the fourth pillar underscores the EDPB’s commitment to contributing to the global dialogue on data protection. To kickstart this new strategy, the EDPB also announced developments in the field of international data transfers to the United States. This includes the adoption of new resources designed to facilitate the redress mechanism and ensure the effective application of the Data Privacy Framework.
